Record Breakers Win At Home
Notts County 2-0 Solihull Moors (National League) 13.11.21
It was a record-breaking day for Notts County who set a fifth-tier English record attendance of near 13,000 as the Magpies put on a show for their fans to beat promotion rivals Solihull Moors at Meadow Lane.
Moors Manager Neal Ardley returned to the stadium for the first time since his departure from County and was warmly received by the Spion Kop and the surrounding stands who acknowledged his hard work during tough times at the club, Ardley now in charge of a tough team of his own that in the first 45 gave as good as they got, making it hard for Notts to get any rhythm going with both sides scoreless at the break in what was a competitive game of football against two evenly matched outfits.
Notts however came out strong in the second half, knowing a win would take them above their opponents in the table, Kyle Wootton breaking the deadlock on 55 after Taylor crossed in to the striker for his ninth of the season.
That goal lifted the crowd but it also lifted Solihull into pressing Notts for an equaliser, that allowed space at both ends and the visitors goalkeeper was called into action saving brilliantly from a Rodrigues header before Vincent blazed over the follow up.
Chances missed for County however where not to be rued, Cairo Mitchell, only on the pitch for a couple of minutes after coming on for Calum Roberts, on 83 minutes putting the match beyond doubt, played through by Rodrigues to shoot low and through the goalkeeper to round off the perfect day for Ian Burchnall’s side.
Notts now up to fifth in the National League table just four points adrift of table topping Chesterfield, the momentum is certainly with the Magpies right now and long may that continue over the congested winter fixture period and beyond.
Summed up nicely by winger Cal Roberts after the game “A brilliant performance in front of a brilliant crowd! Credit to everyone for breaking the record and a huge three points to top it off!”
