Eagles Flying High
A three-goal burst in the first half helped Arnold Eagles Women to a comfortable, 4-1 win, on the road to Notts County Women Development on Sunday afternoon to maintain second place in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division One North.
A hat-trick from Amy Gauvrit featured for the Eagles, two of which came in the first period, whilst Natasha Leach also registered for a side who trail Grimsby Town Women by a point (they drew 0-0 with Grimsby Borough); Jessica Travers pulled a goal back for County’s Devs early in the second period.
Afterwards the Eagles said of their performance that: “The Eagles 1st team carried on where they left off last Sunday, with a comfortable 4-1 victory away at Notts County Development at Basford United this afternoon.
“On Women’s Football Day and in bright sunshine our ladies controlled the majority of the game on a difficult, bobbly surface and scored goals through an Amy (Gauvrit) hat-trick and a Tasha (Leach) penalty.
“Although a little wasteful in front of goal credit must go to the County keeper and defence who stuck to their task throughout.”
Elsewhere in Division One North there was victories for SJR Worksop, 1-0 away to Sleaford Town Ladies, and NTU Women, who saw off visitors Cleethorpes Town Ladies 7-0.
In the Premier Division Rise Park Ladies came up short when on the road at second-placed Chesterfield Women, Gina Camfield notching two in a 5-0 win.
Meanwhile, in Division One South, Nottingham Forest Development eased to a comfortable, 7-1 win when away to Coalville Town Ravenettes, to move into fifth place, nine points off leaders Derby County Women Academy.
There were braces from Millie Smallwood, Jessica Abdy and Isabella Hodson, whilst Maja Kocik also scored in what was another, comfortable outing, for the Garibaldi third string.
Afterwards, Forest Head Coach, Derry Creighton, said of the game: “Each week we have seen progression in the games, today’s performance was no different.
“The standards the girls set today were extremely high. The attitude and application was spot on.
“The girls represented the badge very well, we will continue to push on further to maintain and elevate our performance levels once again.”
