NTU Stay Third After Three Goals & Three Points

Nottingham Trent University Women were to be weekend’s biggest victors in women’s football, in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League, the Division One North side maintaining a nine-point gap between themselves in third, and SJR Worksop Women in fourth.

Of those Notts Women’s sides in the EMWRFL Division One North, four of them make up the top five, behind leaders Grimsby Town Women, whilst three of the five sides collected victories.

NTU defeated third bottom Sleaford Town Ladies 3-0 at home as Lucia Hilton, Alice Rogers, and Bethan Gammon all notched for the University side; SJR Worksop Women won 2-0 away to bottom club Cleethorpes Town Ladies with Lauren Bell notching twice, and Notts County Women Development edged visitors Sherwood Women 2-1 where captain Heather Keith, and summer signing Lauren Trachy notched for County, Katie Fish replying.

The remaining Notts side in the division, Arnold Eagles Ladies, they were held to a 1-1 draw away to mid-table Grimsby Borough Ladies, regular scorer, Natasha Leach, with the goal for the second placed side.

Two other Nottinghamshire clubs were also in action with Mansfield Town Ladies, of the Premier Division, suffering their first league defeat of the season when at home to Chesterfield Women, to open up a three-point gap between the second, and third placed sides.

Chesterfield would score through Bethany Smyth, Georgina Williams, and Georgia Wilson for their seventh win in in nine games, whilst it was Mansfield first defeat in eight (five wins and two draws), the Stags holding a slender, two-point advantage on fourth place Lincoln United Women (wo, coincidentally, lost 1-0 at home to leaders Northampton Town Women).

Meanwhile, in Division Two South, Notts’ only representative in the division, Nottingham Forest Women Development, fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to Oadby & Wigston Ladies, Jayde Jenkins with a pair of late, second half goals.

Defeat for the Reds’ third string means the gap between themselves in fifth, and leaders Derby County Women Academy, is a sizeable, eighteen points, although Forest do have two games in hand on the top two sides.

This coming weekend in the EMWRFL is the next round of the league’s respective League Cup and League Plate competitions, as well as a handful of league fixtures; in regards the knockout competitions, then the following is scheduled –

LEAGUE CUP – Northampton Town Women vs. Nottingham Forest Development Women; Sherwood Women vs. Notts County Women.
