Notts Hit Eight To Reach Semi-Finals

Two of the three Nottinghamshire women’s clubs on cup duty at the weekend racked up eight goals apiece to reach their respective, semi-finals, in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League competitions.

In the League quarter-finals Adam Dunleavy’s Notts County Women ran amok when away to Sherwood Women, registering eight without reply, four in each half, and with it, eight, differing scorers to boot.

Charlotte Taylor had County a goal up inside five minutes before three goal inside five minutes, near the end of the first period, from Lashea Francis, Mollie Crump from fully 35 yards, and an Abbie Staples header for her first in black and white, had them out-of-sight.

The second period went pretty much the same way as the first, although fans were made to wait until the closing twenty minutes for any further goals to be added; Emily Stretton would grab number five, and after that it was a case of how many as Nya Chambers, Bella Reed, and Shoniqua Barnes completed the scoring.

The other Notts side in Cup quart-final action was Nottingham Forest Development, they falling to a 2-0 defeat when away to Northampton Town Ladies for whom Leah Cudone and Alexandra Dicks netted.

With County bagging eight in the Cup, Andi Bell’s Mansfield Town Ladies did the same in the Plate, although their game consisted of a dozen goals, in 120 minutes’ worth of action, Mansfield emerging victorious on the back of an 8-4 win and with Ellie Marshall firing a four-goal salvo.

Alongside Marshall’s four for Mansfield were further goals by Gabriella Foulkes, Georgia Gladwin, Andrea Bell, and Bethany Jones, whilst their hosts, Loughborough Foxes Vixens, netted through Frances Miller and Kendal Styles with two apiece – the game was level at 4-4 at the end of the regulation ninety.

The only other game played involving Nottinghamshire clubs would see Neil Matthews’ Arnold Eagles Ladies return to the top of Division One North courtesy of a 3-0 win away to Sleaford Town ladies, Natasha Leach with a customary brace, Amy Gauvrit the other – they were goalless at the interval.
