Novey Goes Fishing – Sherwood Forest Fishery
Afternoon all,
Hope you have spent plenty of time out on the bank making most of the warm conditions.
Sunday 16th October, I grabbed the puddle sticks and wandered down to my local ponds at Sherwood Forest Fishery. Located between Clipstone and Edwinstowe. Arriving at around 8am I pulled into the fishery to be greeted by one of the bailiffs. Unfortunately due to a large match on the complex, only two lakes were available to day ticket anglers. Cavendish and Maunside.
Maunside is a very small straight lake with around 20 pegs depth to around 5 Feet. Cavendish an oblong shaped lake with pegs only on one side. Cavendish was the choice due to a bigger stamp of fish.
So Tactics,
The £8 day ticket allowed me to fish with Two rods, So as pictured, I used a method feeder with a 10mm wafter then a float set up on the other fishing line, probably around 3ft in the margins. An 8mm soft hook Banoffee pellet of choice. A Chocolate Orange ground bait mix with a small bag of standard 6mm pellets mixed in. (My go to mix of choice).
Weather conditions, Bright and sunny temperature touching 15/16 degrees.
So the first few hours went past with very little sign of fish, only a couple of knocks on the feeder rod. A change was needed but not until after breakfast!
I received a request from a fan of my blog in New Zealand, asking if I can show all the readers what I eat while on the bank. So (Eko) thanks for your message.
As you can see Bacon, Egg And mushroom Finger Roll with American Mustard And Daddies Brown Sauce. And very nice too?
As the sun started to break over the trees it warmed up significantly making it a very pleasant afternoon. A change in tactics was needed. After trying orange, white, washed out yellow, washed out green, then finally a yellow wafter around 1:45pm the tip bent around and a very nice Mirror Carp around 2-3lb graced the net. Phew saved the blank! Unfortunately that was all the action for the day. 3pm time to head home. I will definitely be back to review the other Four lakes on the complex in future blogs.
So a review of Sherwood Forest Cavendish lake.
Recently under a new owner who’s spent a lot of hours over the last few months improving the facilities around the complex. Including a lodge for breakfast butties!
Really quiet complex situated in Sherwood Forest. Excellent choice of lakes. Do check for availability on the weekends due to matches often booked. Some really nice fish to nearly 30lbs. Portaloo on site. You do need to use the fisheries pellet, other than that rules are on the FB page here. Definitely making another visit, hopefully on my favourite lake for another Novey Goes Fishing Blog.
Look out for my new Instagram page coming shortly!
