Novey Goes Fishing – Cromwell Lakes
Evening all,
Back on the bank again, last weekend at my favourite fishery (Cromwell Lakes). Not had the carp rods out since my trip to the Aquarium, France in August. This will be a monthly Blog, A residency if you like.
The Venue
Cromwell Lakes, a well established carp fishery In Newark off the A1.
Set in 18 acres this has to be up there as one of the best kept fisheries in the Midlands if not the UK. Absolutely immaculately kept.
18 pegs with an acre of water each. A lodge with a kitchen area, toilets, showers and a small shop for all your tackle needs. Cromwell Lake is a day ticket water with a minimum 24hr session. Bookings via the Cromwell website. Rosie’s Lodge available on the main lake and a nice lodge on the pool if you prefer a little luxury.
Tactics
3 rod set up with the rigs shown. (Right to Left)
Small grain of Pop Up Maize small shot size 7 Armo Hook
18mm Live System boilie 15mm NS1 yellow pop up slightly larger hook size 8
12mm Wafter with a size 7 hook.
All rigs about 6in long coated braid hook end stripped.
Bait 11mm pellet with a bucket of flaked Maize.
Either Hemp Oil or Sriracha Sauce added to each spot.
After arriving around 8am the rain started coming down. A quick chat with Nathan the bailiff, Peg 6 was the choice for the next 24hrs.
Running the bivvy down to the peg sharpish back for the rest thrown in the bivvy. The heavens opened. Zipped the bivvy up and sat until the rain eased off. Unfortunately not until 12.30pm, finally a break in the rain. Two rods at 19 wraps One at 15 Via the bait boat and around 1.30pm the rods were out and time for a beer.
Nothing to report at 6pm as I wound in and re-baited the spots.
Time for Tea. No sandwiches when i’m on the bank for 24hrs so Curry it is. King Prawn Jalfrezi with Poppadum’s. Straight from the pan!
The night passed with no bites to report, although the rain came back early in the morning making the trip back to the car a miserable one.
Overall Review.
Cromwell has the most spectacular sunsets/ Sunrises, a tricky water to fish but the rewards are worth waiting for. A secure complex with immaculate surroundings. Bailiff onsite 24/7 and very helpful. All the facilities you need to make your stay comfortable.
Fingers crossed for November.
