Notts Clubs Through In Vase

Nine out of the ten Notts-based clubs playing in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round on Saturday afternoon, progressed to the next round, with the likes of Hucknall, Clipstone, and Sandiacre, among others, all progressing.

It was a big day for Sandiacre Town as they picked up their first ever win in the Vase, seeing off hosts Lutterworth Athletic, 3-0, in what was Perry McGrath’s 197th game for the Saints.

Sandiacre were two goals to the good at the interval, Kyle Wade netting the opener after just five minutes, and Jordan Lambert doubling the advantage on the stroke of half-time; the Saints’ decisive third goal arrived within ten minutes of the restart when Jack Vipond netted, the hosts unable to breach their conquerors back-line.

Several local sides progressed having netted four times in their respective wins, Clipstone seeing off visitors Sleaford Town, 4-0, Southwell City winning 4-2 at home to Leicester Nivana, and Retford United edging Beverley Town 4-3; Ayleal Dill grabbed a hat-trick and missed a penalty for City, and Lewis Combers scored twice as United progressed also.

Retford reached the next round with a 3-0 home win over Appleby Frodingham, and Calrick Dunkley’s brace helped Hucknall Town to a 3-1 win against visiting Boston Town; Dunkirk won 2-0 away to AFC Mansfield, Kimberley Miners Welfare edged Birstall United 1-0 at home, and Newark & Sherwood United required penalties to see off Ingles following a 1-1 draw.

The two games played in the GCE Hire Fleet United Counties League Premier Division North had the same outcomes, Newark Town and Sherwood Colliery, and Skegness Town and Eastwood CFC both goalless at the break, and finishing 1-1.

Jamie York gave Sherwood an early, second half lead at Newark, Harvey Grive equalising, whilst at Skegness Tyler Blake looked like he’d sealed the points for Eastwood, the hosts levelling in stoppage time.

Meanwhile, in the handful of games played in Division One only Stapleford Town were successful, they overturning a half-time deficit before winning 2-1 away to Radford, Musa Jawara with the hosts’ goal before two in a minute early in the second, from Alans Voskresenskis and Joel Howes turned the game on its head.

Also on the road were Clifton All Whites, West Bridgford, and Rainworth Miners Welfare, the trio suffering defeat to Pinchbeck United (1-0), Dronfield Town (2-0), and FCV Grace Dieu (4-2) respectively, Toby Francis and Will Oliver netting for Rainworth in their loss.
