Notts Form Improving With Another Win

Tranmere Rovers 1-2 Notts County (EFL League Two) 20.08.25

Martin Paterson’s Magpies have now picked up seven points from their last three matches, with Saturday’s come-from-behind win at Tranmere Rovers stretching an unbeaten run to three matches.

A first half which saw very few chances for either side finally sprung to life on the stroke of half time when the hosts took the lead, experienced winger, Omari Patrick finishing off some good work on the flank from ex-County player, Charlie Whitaker, before firing past Kelle Roos from ten yards out.

Trailing at the break, the equaliser arrived within minutes of the rest after Tom Iorpenda’s cross, following good work from Jodi Jones and Nic Tsaroulla, was slid home by Matthew Dennis, his fifth in just six games for the leagues’ top scorer.

Roos then prevented Patrick from notching what would have been his, and the hosts’ second shortly after, tipping a shot over the bar, before what proved the winner arrived just after the hour mark.

An effort from Dennis, having been put through by Alassana Jatta, was stopped by Luke McGee in the home goal with Kellan Gordon, on for Barry Cotter at the start of the second, fired the ball into an empty net on the rebound.

Patrick continued to be a nuisance for the hosts, putting wide a rebound following an initial block by Rod McDonald as the game moved into the final fifteen minutes, whilst at the other end Tsaroulla sent an effort over McGee’s goal.

Home defender, Patrick Brough, then flicked an effort wide from a corner in the closing minutes, the visiting Magpies holding on for their first away win of the season, and another three points.

Next up for Paterson’s charges, in the league, a home game against ninth place Fleetwood Town, on Saturday (6 September) afternoon.

NOTTS COUNTY – Kelle Roos, Sonny Aljofree, Rod McDonald, Jacob Bedeau, Barry Cotter (Kellan Gordon, 46), Oliver Norburn, Matthew Palmer (capt), Nick Tsaroulla, Jodi Jones (Conor Grant, 77), Tom Iorpdenda (Alassana Jatta, 59), Matthew Dennis

Meanwhile, following their Carabao Cup exit away to Premier League side, Everton, in midweek, EFL League One side, Mansfield Town, were held to a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City.

Taking their early-season tally to ten points, from six matches, is a decent return, and they sit in tenth place in the table after Nathan Moriah-Welsh’s first for the club, stretched their unbeaten league run, to four matches; the Stags travel to third-bottom Wycombe Wanderers next (Saturday 6 September).
