Wildcats Win For Pauline
It was a winning weekend for Nottingham Wildcats as the WBBL side made it back to back Championship wins for the first time since November.
On Saturday Nottingham ended a run of four straight defeats in all competitions to beat Cardiff Met Archers 70-62 before following that up with a one point win over Manchester Mystics on Sunday in a game that ended 66-65 at the Jesse Boot Wildcats Arena.
It wasn’t all smiles though as the Wildcats and the Basketball Community mourned one of their greatest ever after Pauline Prior, a founder member of the team and one who enjoyed 16 years at the top level of British Basketball passed away in her 65th year after losing her battle with Cancer.
Pauline played 219 games for the Wildcats massing over 2,000 points and was also manager of team England as well as coaching for the Wildcats across the youth levels keeping her interest high in the game giving back so much over the many years involved.
The first ever inductee into the Nottingham Wildcats Hall of Fame the legendary Nottingham number 4 will always be remembered as the clubs greatest as well as one of the nicest of women not just in Basketball but in British sport too.
Daughter Shiobhan who now wears the club number 4 stated “I can’t thank our basketball community enough for all the love and support that has been shown to myself and Daddy. Mummy was one in a million”.
Pauline was ‘the heart and soul of Nottingham Wildcats’ described by the WBBL who also commented touchingly “Basketball in Nottingham will of course continue and move from strength to strength. But, the Wildcats family will never quite be the same without its leader, the person who inspired so many and who dedicated her entire adult life to building something so, so special.”
