Carlton Aiming For Playoff Spot
Carlton Town are in action tonight at the Bill Stokeld Stadium as they take on bottom of the table Market Drayton Town as the Millers look to creep in to the playoffs by the end of the night.
The Nottingham based side are currently 8th in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division just two points adrift of Stocksbridge Park Steels in fifth but with four games in hand on the South Yorkshire based team currently in the last playoff slot.
A win tonight could potentially see Carlton into the top five and with fourth placed Belper playing Stocksbridge this evening Tommy Brookbanks side have a great opportunity to close the gap on those in and around them in the race for promotion.
Carlton lost at league leaders Leek Town 3-2 on Saturday so will be looking to bounce back and return to winning ways.
The club had some good news yesterday as the ground on Stoke Lane was graded to a 1,968 capacity from the previous 1,500 set and although the club have never attracted a gate of over 1,000 (the highest being recorded at over 800 verses Notts County in a pre-season friendly) Â it puts Carlton in a good position to house more supporters as they look to progress through the leagues, especially when taking on those sides that bring with them a bigger following than usual.
Another team progressing through the leagues in recent years has been AFC Mansfield who are looking to cement their status in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division for another season.
The Bulls host Maltby Main tonight at the Forest Town Arena with the 16th placed hosts taking on 7th placed opposition with adults tickets from £7 and concessions priced £5 with U16’s free.
Also in the NCEL First Division Ollerton Town entertain Brigg Town at the FastFrame knowing anything less than a point will see their North Lincolnshire based opponents leapfrog them in 14th of the table.
Finally in the East Midlands Counties League tonight leaders Sherwood Colliery visit third place Dunkirk whilst Radford and Heanor do battle at Selhurst Street with West Bridgford hosting bottom of the table Borrowash Victoria and Teversal travelling to Belper.
