Rugby Round Up

After successive wins against Nuneaton and Peterborough Lions it’s been a tough couple of games for Nottinghamshire based Midlands Premier Division side Paviors who lost against Sandbach on 22nd February before suffering a walloping 66-12 defeat against league leaders Bournville last weekend.

Paviors are currently tenth in the thirteen team table with 37 points and just five games left to play but with bottom of the table Peterborough only on one point for the season it seems the Papplewick side will do enough to stay in the Division for at least another year.

In the Midlands 1 East, West Bridgford are currently in fourth place having beaten Towcestrians 31-27 at the weekend but the Nottingham based team are some way behind leaders Syston who have won all their 20 games played.

Bridgford play Syston on Thursday as the club hope to be the first team to take points from the Leicestershire based side this season.

In Midlands 2 East (North) Newark are the highest ranked Nottinghamshire side in seventh place in the table although they were soundly beaten by Loughborough 31-15 on Saturday.

Both Nottingham Casuals and Ashfield occupy the bottom two places in the division with the Beeston based team well beaten by Market Rasen & Louth on Saturday 43-7 whilst Ashfield were hammered 83-10 by Ilkeston. The North Notts side having lost all 18 of their league games this campaign.

In the step 8 Midlands 3 East (North) Division Southwell head the way having won 16 of their 18 matches this season so far with a hard fought 32-17 win last time out against Kesteven. Mellish are in third and beat bottom of the table Rolls Royce 54-5 on Saturday whilst Mansfield in ninth lost at Sileby Town 45-14. In eleventh, a place above Rolls Royce at the foot of the table are Nottingham Moderns who host their last placed rivals this weekend in a match which is critical towards who avoids the wooden spoon.

Finally in Midlands 4 East (North) second place East Retford take on third placed Cleethorpes this weekend with both teams in pursuit of leaders Boston.

Last weekend Retford beat Gainsborough 26-7 in a local derby whilst Cleethorpes beat Meden Vale who are fifth. Meden travel to Chesterfield Panthers this weekend whilst elsewhere Nottinghamians host Tupton and bottom of the table Worksop entertain Sleaford who are fourth.
