Selston Win CMA South Title

Selston capped a fine season this past week by being crowned the Central Midlands Alliance Premier South champions.

Away to Holbrook Sports, on Bank Holiday Monday, a brace from Josh Smith wrapped up a 2-0 win, he netting in each half; his first, late on in the opening forty-five, came following a deep free-kick by captain Jack Cockram and was headed home at the far post, whilst the second, again late on, saw a Cockram corner headed back across goal by Elliott Bland and Smith heading in the second with minutes remaining.

The win stretched their unbeaten end to the season to eleven matches, dating back to mid-March, and during which time Branon Meehan/Archie Corrall and their back-line have kept an impressive, ten clean sheets.

Meanwhile, Linby Colliery Welfare finished twelfth and close their season off with three games in the last week, losing 3-1 at Wirksworth Ivanhoe (5 May), on the end of a 6-0 thumping at FC Sunnyhill (7 May), before ending with a 2-2 draw at Blidworth Welfare at the weekend (9 May).

Ethan Fells netted for Linby in the loss at Ivanhoe, whilst Will Knowles and Charlie Tassi netted in the 2-2 draw at Blidworth, for whom Henry Eastgate bagged a brace.

In the CMA Premier North, SJR Worksop and Teversal fought out a 3-3 draw in midweek, Joe Bean’s brace and one from Thomas Mullen for the hosts, Joshua Parfitt’s double and one from Alex Ferreday for the visitors.

On Saturday, SJR lost 2-1 at AFC Bentley but finished seventh following the previous weekend’s win over Teversal, Jake Scott for the visitors, whilst Teversal who finish the season eighth, won 4-1 at Ollerton Town, Parfitt grabbing a four-goal salvo for the victors.

Elsewhere in the division, Worksop Town Reserves finished the season eleventh, Ollerton Town thirteenth (seven points above the bottom two), and RHP Sports & Social bottom.

As for the Nottinghamshire Senior League, Cotgrave finished the campaign as League and Cup double winners, adding the NSL Senior Cup to the league title following their 2-1 win over league and cup runners-up, Awsworth Villa.

Josh Rae netted for the Villa in the final, with Lewis Robertson and Ben Upton replying to give the Grave double delight; Bingham Town finished in third place in the league, with Woodthorpe Park Rangers and Aslockton & Orston rounding out the top five.

This past midweek would see two games played in the Premier Division, Callum Wolloch netting a brace in Keyworth United’s 3-2 win at Notts Olympic, and twelve-goal thriller at Woodthorpe as they lost 7-5 at home to visiting Southwell City Reserves.

Henry Eastgate netted three of City’s goals alongside a brace from Jake Fitch, with Malaky Eshelby bagging two of Rangers’ goals in reply.

Other cup results in the NSL saw Collingham’s second string add the Intermediate Cup to their first teams’ NFS Senior Trophy, again winning 1-0, this against Calverton Miners Welfare, Charlie Warrington with the only goal.

The remaining two trophies, the Junior Cup and Development Cup, were both won by Loughborough-based, Quorn Methodists, beating Calverton MW Reserves 5-2 (AET) in the former, and AFC Warriors Development 3-2 in the latter.
