Carlton Hit Corby For Six
It was six of the best from Northern Premier League Division One Midlands title hopefuls, Carlton Town on Saturday afternoon, they enjoying a 6-1 home win over eighth bottom visitors, Corby Town.
Six wins from their last nine games should be enough to ensure the title for the Millers, they currently holding an eleven=point advantage on second place Anstey Nomads, the pair having twenty-seven points apiece to play for.
The Millers, they netted three in each half when seeing off Corby, Lamin Manneh bagging a nineteen-minute hat-trick either side of the interval to help seal the points, and this after goals from Oliver Clark and Hugh Dawson had opened the scoring.
Ashley Chambers got in on the act early in the second half to make it four-nil, before Manneh went on to complete his treble netting a spectacular third just before the hour mark; Corby grabbing a consolation through their captain, Jordan Crawford, with twelve left, much to the delight of the visiting support.
Second place Anstey, who lost at home to Carlton earlier this month, kept in the hunt with a 2-0 win away to Bedworth United, whilst Basford United are tucked nicely in third place, the Ambers winning 2-1 at home to Coventry Sphinx, goals coming from Nathaniel Peters and Tyreace Palmer.
Worksop Town fell to a 4-2 defeat away to Marine in the National League North, whilst United Counties League Premier North leaders, Sherwood Colliery, suffered a rare loss, they going down 3-0 when away to lowly Ashby Ivanhoe and with Boston Town winning at Melton Town, the advantage is back to two points.
Oliver Greaves and Lewis Whitham netted late in each half for the Tigers, but Marine claimed all three points following a three-goal second half that began with a penalty from Finlay Sinclair-Smith, whilst goals from Will Robson, George Clark and Sam Birks gave Ivanhoe the points over the Wood.
Newark Town and Kimberley Miners Welfare shared nine goals in the UCL Premier North, Louis Czerwak’s brace helping his side to a 7-2 home win, whilst Kian Sketchley and Philip Watt netted the only goals as AFC Mansfield and Eastwood CFC picked up 1-0 home wins over Newark & Sherwood United and Heanor Town respectively.
Hucknall Town meanwhile were held to a 3-3 draw against visiting Wisbech Town, the hosts netting through Joseph Ashurst, Marcus Marshall, and a late third to earn a share of spoils from Aaron Short.
In UCL Division One, leaders Retford are six ahead of second place Retford United, with two games in hand, after the former win 2-0 at Southwell City, and the latter were held to a goalless draw at FCV Grace Dieu; third place Stapleford Town were beaten 3-1 at home to Clifton All Whites, whilst there was also victories for Shirebrook Town (5-2 at Pinchbeck United), Sandiacre Town (3-0 at home to Radford) and West Bridgford (1-0 at Swallownest).

Meanwhile, Cotgrave’s title procession continues in the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier, Lee Potts netting the only goal in their 1-0 win away to Kimberley MW Reserves to see them nineteen points clear of joint-second place Awsworth Villa and Bingham Town.
Awsworth fell to a 2-0 loss away to Woodthorpe Park Rangers, and Bingham moved level after their win, by same result, at home to Beeston; fourth place Aslockton won 3-1 at home to Arnold Town, whilst there were wins for Wollaton, Keyworth United, Southwell City Reserves, and Notts Olympic, the latter edging a nine-goal thriller at Ruddington Village.
