Stags Held By Stevenage

Mansfield Town 0-0 Stevenage (EFL League Two) 10.10.20

Mansfield drew blanks with Stevenage at the One Call Stadium yesterday in a goalless encounter that frustrated the home team after hitting the woodwork in both halves of the game.

The early chances would be for the away side as Jack Aitchinson forced a save from Marek Stech before another opportunity was self-inflicted when the Stags goalkeeper mis-placed his kick from a back pass only to scuff his clearance to the feet of Inih Effiong before smothering to narrow the angle and push the strikers shot out for a corner.

Charsley in-between hit a post with a volley before yet another shot at goal from the away side as Effiong tested the fingers of Stech who flicked over the bar from his shot outside the area.

In the second half Maynard tested the Stevenage keeper before James Perch tried his luck from long range but to no avail. Late on Maris hit the underside of the bar to rue an opportunity that could have been a winner and a first victory of the season for Mansfield.

After the match Stags Manager Graham Coughlan stated “It was very similar to Tranmere, I think we were the better team. They were celebrating at the end, and that will give you a marker to how we’re thought of in this division.”

“It was always going to be a tough, stodgy affair. They changed their shape as Tranmere did to nullify us.”

“At the end, there was only one team that wanted to win that game. We hit the post and we hit the bar.”

Stags: Stech, Menayese, Rawson, Sweeney, O’Keefe, Perch, Charsley, Maris, McLaughlin (Benning 50), Maynard (Cook 74), Reid.
