Bowlers Turn To Shine At Trent Bridge

After Wednesday’s 400 total which included three centurions at Trent Bridge, Nottinghamshire’s bowlers enjoyed their day under the sunny skies against Oxford University and it wasn’t long into the morning of day two before the hosts had their first wicket of the season as Brett Hutton struck to dismiss Ahmed for a duck.

Hutton’s first wicket came with Oxford on six runs and a second came shortly after as the visitors fell to 23/2 before McBride was trapped LBW without scoring, a third for the fast bowler who then made it four in quick succession, Shaw caught in the slips by Hameed,  Hutton four wickets and Oxford 23/4 little more than an hour into the days play.

Surviving lunch, Oxford would go into the interval 47/4 but it was Hitman Hutton’s morning who’s superb display ripped through the University front end.

Post lunch, Liam Patterson-White saw off plucky opener Heathfield for 19 with a bit of turn off the surface but Oxford reached the hundred mark just five down, a comeback of sorts from their precarious early position.

By tea, the visitors had reached 179/5 and clawed back some momentum as Harrison and Rizvi shared a partnership that would go on to three figures. Rizvi eventually going for 66 before Harrison reached his hundred by the way of Slater, lbw on his first ball bowled.

Before the end of play Trego took Charlie Gwynn who made 33 with Oxford 265/8 and a late wicket for Evison saw Greatwood dismissed before stumps had Notts opponents at 291/9.

A good workout for Notts bowlers who during the middle sessions had to knuckle down and work hard for their wickets, Oxford providing tough test in chase of 410, tomorrow will conclude the three day friendly and you’ll be able to watch it live via Nottingham Sport or through the Trent Bridge YouTube channel.
