NSL Roundup: Woodthorpe Go Top

Woodthorpe Park Rangers took over leadership of the Euro Soccer Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division on Saturday, by a point from Ilkeston FCB who moved second, as both registered big wins, but it’s a slender one for the leaders as their fellow challengers boast two games in hand, and are scoring for fun.

Away to third-bottom Attenborough, the new leaders ran out 7-2 victors with Ryan Bowen notching a hat-trick, victory also helped by solo efforts from Luke Jordan, Connor Scott-Parkin, Dalton Stephens, and substitute Ricky Law, whilst the hosts’ consolations would come via brace from George Chetwynd.

Ilkeston meanwhile, thrust their goal-difference up to +35 from ten played, and they did so courtesy of a thirteen-goal romp of bottom club FC Cavaliers, Kieran Cummings registering a five-goal haul whilst there was also hat-tricks from Ricco Spencer and James Williamson.

Sandiacre Town, Stapleford Town and Keyworth United make up the remainder of the top five, the two Town’s playing out a 1-1 draw at Stapleford, and Keyworth, they fell to defeat when away to Awsworth Villa.

Elsewhere Matthew Newton’s brace helped Southwell City to a 3-2 win away to Wollaton, Liam McCormack scored three in FC Sez’s 5-0 win at Bilborough, and on Friday night, under the lights at Cotgrave, the hosts claimed victory over Dunkirk.

Lucus Cotterill would score twice for the hosts, who ran out 4-1 winners, Thomas Bacon and Lewis Robertson also scoring, whilst Dunkirk’s reply came from Max Taylor.

Radcliffe Olympic are presently five clear atop of Division One after they won 4-1 at home to Stapleford Reserves, goals coming from Benjamin Castell and Gary Watson, as well as subs James Chiu and Christian Montezola.

Behind them in the table are Top Valley and Gedling Southbank (on 26 apiece) then Beeston and West Bridgford (on 24 apiece), and another three sides within touching distance.

Top Valley won an enthralling encounter away to Meden Vale Colts, and Gedling edged hosts Pythian, Beeston won by the odd-goal-in-five away to Calverton Miners Welfare with Josh Kirk and Paul Ireson registering braces for their respective sides, and West Bridgford needed just one goal to see off victors Radford Reserves, Shea Gough the recipient.

Bestwood Colliery hold a three-point advantage over Nottingham Community in Division Tow North as both sides won at the weekend, the leaders however having played a game more, winning 2-1 at third-placed FC Mansfield, Jake Fisher and Sam Rothwell notching, whilst the second-placed side won 5-0 away to Trent Vineyard as sub Nathan Williams grabbed a brace, further goals coming from Baba Cham, Mark Foster and Jayden Wilkes.

The two big victors in Division Two North, led by East Leake Robins, were that of Keyworth United Reserves and AFC Colsterworth Sports & Social, both of whom won 6-1 as the former saw off visitors Pass Move Grin Reserves, and the latter winning by the same away to Beeston Reserves.

Carlton Town Lions meanwhile head up the Foundation Division, by seven points, from AFC Rufford, after winning 4-3 Rushcliffe Reserves, the Lions registering through Daniel Chambers, Thomas Gee, Ethan O’Keefe and Jordon Percival, whilst Rushcliffe replied through that of Daniel Mbetewa with two, and Adam Kemp; meanwhile Max Farnsworth scored twice as Manor won 7-1 away to Phoenix Inham Reserves.
