Notts Win As Brett Returns
Having welcomed Emily Brett back to the club, from Sporting Khalsa, made her second debut for Notts County at the weekend, notching the winner in a 2-1 success away to Sutton Coldfield.
Brett, who has also played for Peterborough United, said of her return to the club: “I’m very excited to get going again, I have a good relationship with the coaches I get on with them very well.
“I’ve always had this club close to my heart, I’ve always said I wanted to come back.
“It was just a matter of time when it was going to happen, and luckily for me it’s sooner rather than later.”
Following a goalless, first forty-five minutes, in this FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands encounter, both sides having chances; it would not be until just after the hour that the visitors would open the scoring through Jessie Knott.
Within minutes of the opener, the visitors brought on Brett for her second debut, and five minutes after she’d notched what proved the winning goal; the hosts did pull a goal back late on, Niamh Deasy converting a penalty in the 91st minute.
Sitting seventh in the table, and four points off Boldmere St Michaels in fifth, it’s back-to-back home games next for County as they welcome first, Barnsley (11 February), then Worcester City two weeks later (23 February).
As for County’s Reserves side, in the Reserves Midlands Division, and sitting in fourth place, they fell to a heavy, 5-0 defeat, when at leaders Stoke City Development, for whom Imogen Fahy netting a hat-trick – the hosts have now netted 41 goals in their last five games alone.
Four Notts clubs were in action in the quarter-finals of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League’s Plate competition, three of whom progressed to the semi-finals.
SJR Worksop progressed courtesy of a 2-0 home win over local rivals, Notts County Development, an own-goal and one from Mia McDonald seeing the hosts through.
Mansfield Town also reached the final four after they saw off the challenge of visiting Newport Pagnell Town, 3-1, goals coming from Amy Pashley, Maia Taylor, and Olivia Wheatcroft.
Nottingham Trent University also progressed, winning 4-1 at Brookside Athletic, and were joined by Chesterfield, who won 2-1 at Sleaford Town.
The one league game played came in the EMWRFL Division One North, Arnold Eagles leapfrogging their hosts, Belper Town, on goal difference, at the bottom end of the table, Amy Gauvrit and Kitty Ward netting in a 2-0 win.
Radcliffe Olympic took over leadership of the Notts Girls & Ladies League Seniors One, on goal-difference, with a game in hand, from Mansfield Town Development, as three of the top four all won.
Olympic, they cruised to a 7-2 success when home to bottom club Retford, and Mansfield, they won 4-0 on the road at Calverton Miners Welfare; third place Newark Town were beaten 2-1 at Blidworth Welfare, and University of Nottingham, sitting fourth, won 4-2 at Hucknall Town.
With three points separating first to fifth, and Lowdham Colts, four points further back in sixth, it’s tight at the top; the remaining game in the division, that would see NTU Pink claim a 5-2 win when home to Arold Town Development.
Keyworth United hold a three point advantage in Seniors Two, on joint second duo of Eastwood & Kimberley, and Bingham Town, the leaders having won 2-1 at the latter, whilst Seniors Three sees Arnold Town holding court with a six point advantage on second place Gedling Southbank.
