Basford Slip In Title Race

Basford United slipped up at the weekend in their promotion push as they were well beaten in the BetVictor Northern Premier League at Radcliffe.

In miserable conditions in the North West it was the home side who started on fire when Ben Wharton netted on just two minutes.

Basford pushed hard for a leveller but Tyrese Sinclair put the game almost beyond bed in the 72nd minute before former FC United striker Matthew Wolfenden wrapped things up in added time.

United are third in the table three points behind Lancaster in second and four points behind South Shields at the top who also have a game in hand.

In the South East Division Carlton Town stay top despite having their game postponed at Stocksbridge due to bad weather. Worksop in thirteenth were without a game.

In the North East Counties League on Friday night Ollerton Town’s derby match verses Retford was abandoned after floodlight failure. It was the second game in recent weeks at Ollerton to be called off due to a power failure after a similar occurrence late on against North Ferriby.

In the Midland Football League Newark Flowserve were well beaten by Coventry United 4-1 whilst Selston lost 3-1 at Haughmond.

In the East Midlands Counties League a cracker at Coronation Park between Eastwood and Clifton was won 3-2 by the home side after all whites defender Chadley Timson put through his own net.

Leaders Hucknall Town put ten past Shirebrook with Joe Ashurst netting four in a 10-2 win whilst Gedling Miners Welfare beat Radford 4-1 thanks to a coupe from Felix Hogg.

Elsewhere Dunkirk drew Ingles 0-0 and Sherwood Colliery beat Graham Street Prims 4-2 at Debdale Lane with two from Kieran Wells.

In Notts FA Senior Cup action Bingham Town beat Clipstone 2-1 whilst Teversal hammered Calverton Miners Welfare 7-0 with a couple for Daniel Fulwood amongst others.
