Notts Slip In Title Race
It wasn’t a great night for Notts County last night as the Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw with Bromley at Meadow Lane.
The home side were left frustrated having hit the woodwork three times in the match, with Wrexham in second place beating Maidenhead 1-0, the top two teams results meaning the Welsh side narrow the gap on Notts to just one point after seventeen matches played.
Despite Notts woes in not finishing off what they started, it’s another point and performance in the right direction, Luke Williams team unbeaten in eight in the league, have a weekend off as those involved partake in the FA Cup, with another test against playoff contenders Southend next Tuesday.
Adam Chicksen grabbed his sixth goal of the season turning home a Ruben Rodrigues cross at the back post, an area which is becoming his domain, Langstaff then turned over Nemane’s inviting cross before Cedwyn Scott’s effort was tipped onto the post, Slocombe then produced three important saves as the away side turned to attack, Rodrigues then hitting a post for the second time in the match for Notts, an exciting first half somehow staying at just 1-0.
Ten minutes into the second half and Notts struck the woodwork for a third time, Langstaff this time rattling the bar, before Cheek had the audacity to level things up, the away side back on level terms an hour into the match.
Notts pressurised their opponents late on, a good save by the Bromley goalkeeper denying Castro from point blank range, in the last minute Langstaff heading off target after Brindley crossed in. It wasn’t to be, but a point is better gained than nothing.
Elsewhere in the Southern League Central Division last night, Basford United were beaten 2-1 by Mickleover. In the Northern Premier League East Division, Worksop Town beat Shildon 4-1, a Liam Hughes hat-trick helping the Tigers towards fifth place in the division.
