Three Points In Meadow Lane Late Show

Notts County 2-1 Tranmere Rovers (EFL League Two) 22.02.25

It wasn’t pretty, but Notts County beat League Two strugglers Tranmere with a late show to gain a hard earned three points and all importantly keep the pressure on those above in the promotion race.

The first half was poor and had minimal chances which saw Jacob Bedeau blaze over a long range drive for Notts, the best of their lot, whilst Rovers finest carved attempt on 28 was saved from a diving header by Norman down low by Alex Bass.

The games first goal would eventually come with just ten minutes remaining, former Everton youngster Charlie Whitaker picking up the ball outside the area, driving, shooting, hard and low to put the hosts one up with a beauty.

The Magpies buoyed by their goal, made it two just three minutes later when Alassana Jatta reacted first to his own rebounded attempt, heading on to the bar from a left wing centre, when the ball bounced back he slid in his fifteenth league goal of the campaign.

Tranmere did pull one back on 88 from former Notts front man Kristian Dennis.

A half cleared corner was crossed in by Merrie for 34-year-old Dennis, off the bench to head brilliantly home to ensure a nervy last few moments but thankfully Notts clung on to a first win in three.

The Magpies now fourth in the table level on points with third placed Wimbledon and a point behind second spot Doncaster who have played a game more, next up for Notts is a trip to mid-table Fleetwood on Saturday.

Magpies: Bass, Johnson, Platt, Bedeau, Gordon (Tsaroulla 72), Abbott (Hinchy 86), Palmer, Jarvis, Whitaker (Edwards 86), Grant (Traore 67), Jatta.
