Millers & Ambers Both Win

Northern Premier League Division One Midlands duo, Carlton Town and Basford United, both registered victory on Tuesday night, maintaining their unbeaten start to the new campaign.

Tommy Brookbanks’ Millers made it two-wins-from-two, with a second successive, 2-1 win, as they welcomed Bourne Town to the Bill Stokeld Stadium.

Having hit the crossbar as early as the tenth minute, and had a penalty appeal waved away midway through the first half, midfielder Ewan Robson was on-hand to open the scoring on the stroke of half-time, converting from a routine corner, the visitors equalising just after the hour mark when substitute Lewis Darlington netted.

Visiting ‘keeper, William Lakin, certainly kept the Millers attack at bay throughout both halves of the contest, with a handful being cleared off the line for added measure, the came added time.

Brookbanks made a plethora of changes inside the final twenty minutes, one of which was bringing on Liam Moran for captain Niall Davie, with sixteen minutes left; however, with the game heading towards a draw, it would be Moran, at the second attempt, who’d snatch the winner.

A late cross from Lewis Durow, in the fifth minute of added time, was met by Moran who, at the second time of asking, beat Will Lakin in the visiting goal and give the hosts all three points.
