Retford & Retford Lead The Way
The Badgers and The Choughs continue to lead the way in the GCE Hire Fleet United Counties League Division One following the midweek round of matches, both of whom also registered home wins to continue their early season form.
Between them they’ve won fifteen of eighteen games played, with Retford United leading the way, by three points from Retford, with both having played nine; they also have games in hand on sides beneath them as well.
Ryan Hindley’s side kept their noses in-front following an eventually comfortable, 7-1 win, when hosting mid-table Dronfield Town, Lewis Chambers again at the forefront of the action; a brace inside the opening ten minutes, and a hat-trick completion minutes into the second period, not only put the Badgers on their way to victory, but also kept him in the early season for the leagues’ top scorer.
Chambers’ treble sees him level on sixteen goals with Lewis Collins, of Premier Division South side, Atherstone Town and his goals were added to by Matthew Tootle and Josh Devereux before the hour mark, alongside further goals by Jack Warner and Carlton Carty as the game moved into the final twenty minutes.
The visitors’ consolation goal arrived in the closing stages of the first half, Sam Bebbington netting to make the score 2-1 at the break; the night before meanwhile would see Chris Woodhead’s charges keep up the early pace after a 2-1 win at home to top ten side, Swallownest.
Jacob Priestnall had the hosts a goal to the good inside twenty-five minutes, Jesse Omoregbee levelling minutes before the interval, the winner coming ten minutes inti the second half via Iren Wilson.
Sandiacre Town are the only other Notts side in the top ten, they playing out a goalless draw with Dunkirk; mid-table Southwell City were beaten 2-0 at home to Gedling Miners Welfare courtesy of second half goals from Jack Jepson and Kieran Harrison, and Radford closed in on a top-half place after a 1-0 success against visiting West Bridgford, Dennan Morgan netting late in the second half.
Rainworth Miners Welfare registered their first win of the season after a 2-1 win ay Pinxton, Shirebrook Town beat visiting Clipstone, and Clifton All Whites lost away to a Coalville Town side keeping pace at the top, all by the same result.
With no games played in the Central Midlands Alliance, only one game was played out in the Euro Soccer Notts Senior League Premier Division, Kimberley Miners Welfare moving into sixth place after a 2-1 win away to Dunkirk.
Alfie Newbold afforded Kimberley’s second string the lead ten minutes before the break, with Owen Evans doubling the advantage within minutes of the restart, Declan Knight halving deficit but the visitors held on to a win which sees them move within six points of joint-leaders Cotgrave and Collingham.
