United Into Top Five

Midweek action across Nottinghamshire’s non-league scene this week saw games mainly in the Northern Premier League and United Counties League, with a handful of cup matches for added measure.

In the former of the leagues, the NPLs Division One Midlands, Basford United scored four whilst Carlton Town conceded four, the latter with the same outcome as their Notts rivals had done just a few days earlier.

At Greenwich Avenue though, Basford turned on the style to move up to fifth in the table with two goals in each half for the three points against visiting St. Neots Town; Kieran Cummings opened the scoring for the hosts in the opening minutes of the contest, with Tyler Dacres bagging a brace before Jack Goodman completed the rout just after the hour mark.

Meanwhile, for the second time in a matter of days, Racing Club Warwick inflicted a four-goal defeat on a Notts club; at the weekend they defeated visiting Basford 4-1, and on Tuesday night shut up shop when defeating Carlton 4-0 at their Townsend Meadow home, Dylan Barkers and James Harding bagging braces in this one.

In the United Counties League there was a handful of games in both the Premier Division North and Division One, as well as in the leagues’ KO Cup, and the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup.

League-wise and Newark Town moved level on points at the top with Boston Town and Kimberley Miners Welfare following their 2-0 win away to Harrowby United, Louis Czerwak and Sam Wright with the goals, whilst Eastwood CFC continued their push for the top ten with victory by the same score, they at home to Gresley Rovers as Terry Hawkridge and Jevin Seaton scored in the second half for the points.

Alexander Duhameau’s goal for Sherwood Colliery proved insufficient as they exited the UCL Cup 2-1 at home to Boston Town, whilst in Division One, sixth bottom West Bridgford were beaten 4-1 away to Pinchbeck United, Michael Cazley-Richards with the visitors’ late consolation effort, Flynn Slater with a brace for the hosts.

Three games were played in the Notts FA Senior Cup, Kimberley MW going through on penalties following a goalless draw at AFC Mansfield, Robert De La Silva with the deciding spot-kick, Stapleford Town edged a five-goal thriller when home to Dunkirk, and Retford won 3-1 at Southwell City.

There were five different scorers at Stapleford, the hosts’ netting via George Harrison, Riley Phillips and Ryan Hughes, Stern Irvine and Kamani Wilson replying, whilst there were four different scorers at Southwell as Kaeden Bennison netted for the hosts and the visitors progressing with goals from Iren Wilson, Liam Bennett, and Scott Boden.

The remaining game came in the Nottinghamshire Senior League’s Senior Cup, Dunkirk and Beeston finishing in a 1-1 draw, the visiting progressing on penalties.
