Kimberley Shoot Newark Out Of Vase

It was Isuzu FA Vase day in Nottinghamshire on Saturday afternoon as six of the counties side progressed into the Second Round Proper of this season’s competition, amongst them, a barnstormer of a game between Newark Town and Kimberley Miners Welfare.

Two of the top four sides in the United Counties Premier Division North collided at the YMCA Activity Village, the fourth place Blues, welcoming third place Kimbo, for a game that saw ten goals, a red card, and a penalty shoot-out.

The visitors took the lead inside the opening five minutes after a penalty was awarded, and subsequently netted by Kole Lambert, before the hosts spun the game on its head with a quick-fire double ten minutes later.

First Matteo Perkins equalised, the, two minutes later, Joe Braithwaite heads home a corner from Brad McGregor; five minutes after taking the lead and the hosts found themselves 3-1 ahead when another corner is met by Braithwaite to fire home his second of the game.

With the hosts now in dreamland, their hopes of progression increased ten minutes before the break, stretching their advantage to three following Ryan Rushen’s goal; Lambert though notched his, and Kimbo’s second of the game, shortly before the break after a mis-kicked clearance put him through.

Both sides netted their first five spot-kicks apiece, making the shoot-out the same as the game itself finished, 5-5, and so to sudden death; Luke Anderson nets a second from the spot for the hosts, Jordan Wheatley buries his for Kibo, before substitute Adrian Bilicz misses, Wheatley stepping up and doing the captains job, sending his side into the next round, 7-6 on penalties.
