Mansfield Beaten On The Road Again

Leyton Orient 2-1 Mansfield Town (EFL League Two) 11.02.20

After two successive draws Mansfield Town lost again last night with the club now in a run of form that has seen them win just twice in picking up only 12 points since November.

The Stags now sit on 32 points having scored twenty of their seasons tally in the opening three months of the campaign but having fallen towards the foot of the League Two table since the turn of the year Graham Coughlan’s side are now 21st all be it luckily (thanks to Bury) 10 points clear of the only relegation place where Stevenage sit.

The Stags fell behind to a goal on the stroke of half time one that slipped under the body of Bobby Olejnik one in which he should of kept out. Dayton was fed by Angol to drive low towards the near post with the ball sliding underneath the diving Austrian.

Olejnik might have been at fault but he had earlier come to the rescue keeping out an Angol free kick punching away before the Orient striker crossed back in for Dan Happe to hit the post with the rebound falling at the feet of Conor Wilkinson who blasted over.

The Stags went close themselves when Maynard slipped in CJ Hamilton down the left who pulled back to Maynard who’s low shot was saved by Vigouroux diving to his left.

But on the stroke of half time the O’s took the lead as Dayton fired in his first of the season.

The Stags fought back in the second half and always a danger at set plays through the lovely left foot of Benning it was Kelland Watts who headed his first goal for the club straight from an inswinging corner on the hour.

Benning tested the palms of the keeper from distance soon after but 14 minutes later home side substitute Jordan Maguire-Drew crossed into the danger area and as Benning was pressured by Angol he could do nothing but put into his own net.

The Stags had one last chance when a long free kick pumped in by Olejnik fell back out to CJ Hamilton who’s low driven cross evaded everybody.

Next up is Newport at home on Saturday with Mansfield needing an uplift in fortunes as quickly as possible.

After the match Manager Graham Coughlan stated “It obviously wasn’t good enough. We’re vulnerable and the goals we’re conceding are soft. The errors we’re making are killing us and the decision making is poor.”

Stags: Olejnik, Sweeney, Pearce, Watts, Riley (Clarke 46), Bishop, Tomlinson, Benning (Charsley 88), Hamilton, Maynard, Rose.
