Tiago Goes Greek

Nottingham Forest have sold midfielder Tiago Silva to Greek friends Olympiakos for an undisclosed fee. The Portuguese star had a successful year long spell at the City Ground making 44 Championship appearances last season attracting interest from the Super League side who were this week drawn in the Champions League group stages alongside Marseille, Porto and Manchester City.

The Silva transfer could pave the way for another Portuguese star Cafu who is currently on the books at Olympiakos. Cafu like Silva is a midfielder aged 27 with Portuguese youth and under 20 caps.

The departure of Silva is a frustrating one for fans but with the Reds making a lot of changes between campaigns they have had to offload to balance the books with more likely to move before the transfer window closes as the futures of Tiago’s Portuguese compatriots Bruno Ribeiro and Toby Figueiredo also look in doubt.
