Daws Begin To Open For Carlton Boxer
He’s been sparring that of Rendall Munroe and Gavin McDonnell, as well as Ricky Hatton’s protégé, Jack Murphy, as he prepares to oppose unbeaten Scotsman, Mark McKeown, 3-0(1), next month.
Unbeaten himself, Bradley Daws, a 24-year-old fighter managed by Carl Greaves and trained by Chris Slatcher, currently posts a record of 6-0(2), made his bow in late 2018, and has appeared at the Nottingham Arena, not that he remembers much of that night.
“I was nervous when I made my pro debut,” admits Daws, who defeated Elvis Guillen over four rounds at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.
“There’s a difference between the amateurs and professionals, but I was happy with it and it was good to be able to get it out the way, but I was nervous for weeks beforehand.”
Eight months on from that professional debut and, after a handful of ‘small hall’ outings, Brad would face the Latvian southpaw, Gigurds Krauklis, at the Nottingham Arena, on the undercard of fellow Notts fighter, Leigh Wood, and his Commonwealth title success over Ryan Doyle.
However, as a ‘float’ on the night there’s always that unsureness as to when the ring-walk would be. For Brad though, he never got to see any of the action in the Arena, he and his team being backstage pretty much all night.
“I warmed up three times that night, and I had my hands wrapped from early on,” explained Brad.
“I thought I’d be first up and ended up being last, so I made sure all my fans were all there from when the doors opened.
“When I finally got in the ring, the fight was over quickly (thirty-five seconds), but everyone gets behind me so it’s all good.”
Now, he’s looking square in the eye of fight number seven, and a rearranged date with Scottish fighter, McKeown, who only debuted in late 2019, and has managed to squeeze two contests in during the strangest of years that 2020 brought.
Daws however has been recovering from injury, using a good six-month period, to rehab from what was golfers elbow, the arrival of the current, ongoing pandemic, allowing him some space for recovery.
“Training has been pretty good, and with the sparring, the likes of (Gavin) McDonnell, (Rendall) Munroe, and (Jack) Murphy), I’ve been keeping busy the best I can,” admitted Brad.
“McKeown though, he’s a good, sharp, technical fighter but, I know that, on my day, I’d be a handful for anyone.
“It’s six rounds so I’ll just go in there and adapt to however things are on the night because I just want to get out there, fight, and I’ll fight anyone really.”
Bradley Daws faces Mark McKeown on February 6 in a Battle of Britain’s two, undefeated prospects; the Carlton fighter sponsored by B&S Roofing, Jackson’s Cleaning Services, Body Craft Tattoos, JM Physiotherapy, Leicester Lighting, and Nutrition by John Clark, supporters whom, along with his increasing fan-base, he’d like to thank for their excellent backing.
