Notts Face Warwickshire Friendly Test
After warming up for the new season at home to Oxford University last week, Nottinghamshire travel to Birmingham today to take on Warwickshire at Edgbaston in a two-day tie of batting and bowling practice in the predicted sunshine.
The team got off to a fabulous start with the bat last week with three players making centuries at Trent Bridge, Ben Slater, Ben Compton and Steven Mullaney all retiring with treble figures whilst with the ball, an amazing spell of 4/11 by Ben Hutton topped a useful three days as Notts started their preparations for a County Championship season start against Durham in just over a weeks’ time.
Warwickshire will provide a tougher test than Oxford Uni who themselves impressed in spells, taking early wickets, and building scores from the middle order, it is hoped Notts can improve in these areas over the next two games (they also face Leicestershire in a friendly on Friday) as they iron out their creases before season start.
Notts had Stuart Broad in action on the Trent Bridge training field yesterday but he won’t be playing against Warwickshire. The squad for the trip is as follows: Zak Chappell, Joe Clarke, Ben Compton, Ben Duckett, Joey Evison, Luke Fletcher, Haseeb Hameed, Brett Hutton, Tom Moores, Steven Mullaney, Liam Patterson-White, Ben Slater.
As well as today’s fixture at Edgbaston, Notts will play a second string game against the same opposition at Portland Road with a side that includes the likes of Tom Barber, Matt Carter, Dane Paterson and Peter Trego.
