Doncaster Snatch Late Win
Doncaster 16-15 Nottingham (RFU Championship) 18.01.20
Nottingham Rugby lost agonisingly by a point against Doncaster Knights leading by six points in the 80th minute to concede a last minute try with the home side converting to snatch a stunning but sad win.
It was a game of two minutes, as the Green and Whites came out of the blocks quickest in the first minute of the match to score after just 13 seconds with Williams going over before O’Leary converted but Doncaster pulled back the deficit with two penalties before a further three points were added on the stroke of half time to give the Yorkshiremen the lead.
On the hour Nottingham got their second try of the game when Williams went over to put the visitors 9-12 up but O’Leary missed the conversion which in the end proved costly.
Nottingham did further their advantage with nine minutes to play as O’Leary kicked over a penalty to take the team 9-15 up but as time ticked on the away teams defence held firm until stoppage time where Doncaster’s persistence paid off. The try was forced over by Howard Packman to bring the scores to within a point as kicker Sam Olver held his nerve to win the game on the whistle.
Nottingham having lost their last three championship league matches now lie tenth level on points with second from bottom Bedford on 16 from nine games played.
