Panthers Win On The Road

Fife Flyers 2-3 Nottingham Panthers (Elite League) 19.01.20

Nottingham Panthers won on the road to beat bottom of the table Fife and keep their Playoff dream alive as Tim Wallace’s men won their fifth straight Elite League game keeping them third in the table level on points with fourth placed Belfast Giants who the Panthers have two games in hand on.

It didn’t go all the Panthers way in Scotland though as Fife led after just two minutes of the first period through Buesa before doubling their advantage on 7.19 via Finucci. A Georgs Golokovs goal however reduced the deficit going into the second period and when Brett Perlini levelled after a powerplay going into the third the Panthers had their tails up to go out and grab the winner.

It wasn’t easy for Nottingham though as with time running out and less than 20 seconds on the clock Defender Brian Connolly proved to be the matchwinner after Brett Perlini won a face off allowing the American to shoot through a crowd and give Panthers the win.

After the match Coach Tim Wallace stated “We didn’t have the best of starts but I think the confidence was there, we never panicked, we was always in control and thought we would get the job done which we did” stating “we got a little bit of a bounce but maybe the hockey gods rewarded us for the chances we had”

The Canadian said it was “a gritty win for us, we got the job done and got the two points, we just need a rest day tomorrow and we have a big game Wednesday”.

Next up for Panthers are Cardiff Devils in the Challenge Cup semi-final 1st leg in Wales.
