No news is normally good news but in the case of our cities top basketball teams in recent weeks that unfortunately hasn’t been true.
Nottingham Hoods have started the year with four successive losses after ending 2019 with a 102-97 defeat of Liverpool and the Wildcats Arena based outfit currently lie in tenth place of the NBL Division One with 5 wins and 12 losses for the season.
Last time out a packed crowd witnessed an entertaining East Midlands derby against Leicester Warriors with the Hoods eventually losing 81-94 to the team one place above them in the table but took heart from some fabulous basketball played in front of a fantastic home support.
In Womens Basketball the Nottingham Wildcats after starting the new year with a win have suffered two successive defeats by just two scores against Newcastle Eagles and by a wider 12 point margin at Manchester Mystics on Saturday.
The Wildcats lost 76-64 and were overtaken by Manchester with Nottingham dropping down to sixth place in the league after seven wins and four defeats from 11 played.
This week has seen the club involved with the Greenwood Academies Trust Basketball Tournament with children of all ages taking part with fun mini games, exercise and motivational speeches from some of the best players in the country as well as an inter-academy Basketball tournament with trophies for the winning teams.
This weekend the Womens British Wheelchair Basketball league comes to Nottingham and the Wildcats Arena with tickets still available on Sunday through Eventbrite website here.
Both the Nottingham Hoods and the Nottingham Wildcats are without a game but in the NBL Division One the counties University womens team Nottingham Trent are in action on Saturday night as seventh in the league host second placed Anglia Ruskin University at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre, Clifton Campus with a 6:30pm tip off.
On the same day In Division Three East the Nottingham Universities mens team take on County Upper Wolves at the Jubilee Sports Centre from 6pm whilst on Sunday Nottingham Trent Hoods take on leaders Northampton Titans in the same division with a 2pm start.
In the Third Division Midland League Mansfield Giants take on University of Wolverhampton at Sandwell Academy on Saturday.
