Pressure On Lamouchi As Forest Face Cardiff
The 2020/21 campaign hasn’t started in the fashion that the Reds would have hoped for. Two defeats, matched by two below par performances, has seen the usual pre-season optimism abandoned; the minefield of social media is now filled with doom, gloom and plenty of pessimism.
Forest will play their first home game of the season this Saturday, as Cardiff City make the trip to the City Ground. Those of a Red persuasion will be hoping for a much needed win, no one more than head coach Sabri Lamouchi. The pressure on the Frenchman is mounting, reports have been circulating suggesting he’s fast running out of time to turn things around.
Lamouchi has demanded his side show more character and desire, as he looks to end the Reds’ 21 year Premier League exile. A win over Neil Harris’ Cardiff City will help ease some of the pressure but make no mistake – a serious turn around of both results and performance is needed if the Forest faithful are to be totally convinced.
There are no new injury concerns for Forest as they prepare to take on the Bluebirds. So there may be a first appearance of the season for Samba Sow. The Mali international has been back in first team training, whilst still nursing a persistent knee injury, and will be hopeful of getting some valuable minutes in his legs. A player that was key for Forest last season, if he can recreate some of the displays he graced us with, in 2019/20, he’ll yet again be a key player this term – should he stay fit.
Last year’s visit of Cardiff saw the Reds on the wrong end of a 1-0 score line, as Nathaniel Mendez-Laing curled home the only goal of the game. But it was a former Red that was the man of the match that day, as Lee Tomlin proved to be a thorn in Forest’s side – seamlessly linking up Cardiff’s midfield and their attack. He also proved to be his menacing self, winning free kicks and knowing exactly how slow the game down; a trait he was much adored for, during his short time Trentside.
This could well be the most important match for Sabri Lamouchi’s future as Forest head coach. A win, particularly one in impressive style, and the pressure will ease slightly; a stay of execution (of sorts). Yet, a defeat and Evangelos Marinakis’ resolve will be tested. With every defeat the high regard, in which Forest fans hold Lamouchi, is draining. If Forest don’t show major signs of improvement the discontent amongst the fans will grow and grow.
Lamouchi, and Forest, need a win now. They need a win to get past the mental barriers of last season’s collapse. They need a win to ensure Marinakis isn’t tempted to push the big red button.
Saturday is huge. Forest will hope they can thrive under the pressure and not crumble – like is “usual Forest”.
Kick off is at 12:30pm with the match live on Sky Sports.
