Quickfire Double See’s Notts Lose Again

Solihull Moors 2-1 Notts County (National League) 13.04.21

A second successive defeat for Notts County leaves the Magpies clinging on to their playoff position with now one eye looking back over their shoulder.

It started so well against Solihull Moors, a team sitting in the middle of the National League with no real danger of getting dragged into a relegation fight, not likely to chase the top seven, but this result might provide the confidence to suggest otherwise?

Jimmy Knowles grabbing the game’s first goal after just eleven minutes with Notts very much on top, Lewis Knight provided the ammunition, Knowles provided the finish in a half which County looked much the stronger of the two teams on show.

Wootton heading over on the half hour a real opportunity spurned, in the second half Lacey might have made it two just five minutes in, heading a Chicksen free kick straight into the arms of Boot.

On 53 Wootton’s shot was well saved by the goalkeeper who palmed the striker’s effort out for a corner before the same player met the resulting set piece, rising highest only for the header again to be denied by Boot.

At the other end Sam Slocombe was called into action with a superb save on 56, Hudlin’s curling drive spectacularly stopped by the Notts keeper, however Slocombe could do nothing on 65 as the ball dropped to James Ball who scored from close range.

A minute later, Notts had a huge call for a penalty when Wootton went down, but it was Solihull with their tales up who would go on to get the winner, another scrappy effort, on 79 by Hudlin enough to give all the points to the home side.

Notts would create half chances for Rodrigues and Sam late on but the Moors did enough to earn the victory. County looked strong in the first half and had they have scored a second when in control it might have been a different story for Ian Burchnall’s men. Moors grew more and more confident buoyed further by their goals, in the end perhaps deserving after their committed display.
