An outstanding performance by Portuguese star Simone Costa helped Nottingham Wildcats return to winning ways after defeat against Leicester Riders at the weekend as Kenrick Liburd’s team of girls bounced back to run out comfortable winners over Oaklands Wolves this afternoon.
The game ended 68-47 in Nottingham’s favour with Costa scoring 22 points with 7 rebounds and 4 assists amongst her statistics, ably backed up by the Swede Moa Lundqvist who netted 14 points with 9 rebounds and 1 assist.
Nottingham proved strong from the off and got to work ramping up an eight point first quarter lead which increased further to twelve by half time.
The Wildcats impressed in a third quarter that saw them hit 22 points against 12, and whilst the fourth was all but a formality, a low scoring one at that which the Wolves edged by a point 9-8. Nottingham eventually winning by a cozy 19-point margin.
The win keeps the Wildcats in touching distance with the top four in the WBBL, the top three places may seem out of reach but the fourth slot in the Championship is very much to play for and Nottingham after 15 games 8 wins and 7 defeats are now locked with Manchester Met Mystics and Essex Rebels on 16 points.
Next up for the Wildcats, Sevenoaks Suns on Saturday 17th April at the Surrey Sports Park.
