Notts Stretch Run With Hales Ton

Notts Outlaws tied for the third time this season in the Vitality Blast at Derbyshire Falcons on Friday night before winning on Saturday against Lancashire Lightning as Alex Hales scored a 66 ball hundred in a man of the match performance at Trent Bridge.

On Friday against cross A52 rivals Derbyshire, Notts opened the innings with a first ball duck for Hales as Joe Clarke made 36 during an underwhelming climb to 137/9 beneath the grey skies above the Incora County Ground but a battling bowling performance saw wickets for all six of the Outlaws attack and although the home side looked strong at 100/4 needing just 38 runs from five overs remaining, the Notts bowlers went to work in asuperb fashion to keep the score down, taking a further five wickets in five overs for just 37 ensuring a third match of the season involving Notts would end all square.

Luke Fletcher who took 2/17 the man at the end reducing Derbyshire to share the spoils, young Calvin Harrison taking 2/9 from 2 overs whilst Samit Patel on his 199th T20 Blast outing took 2/17 off his permitted 4 overs.

A day later at a slightly brighter Trent Bridge, Notts welcomed Lancashire and Alex Hales went to town with a stunning 101 not out as thehome side made 173/6.

In reply Lancs fell quickly to 76/4 with Matt Carter in fine form taking 3/17 with the away side fighting back to end just seven runs short of target on 166/7 after a decent effort by Steven Croft (scoring 41) and former Notts all rounder Luke Wood who ended 33 not out.

The win ensuring Notts are joint top with Yorkshire but behind on run rate with 13 points from 9 games played.

Next up for Notts a home game against Leicestershire Foxes on Thursday night before a trip to Birmingham Bears on Friday night.
