Lady Magpies Hit Five
Only three matches involving sides from Nottinghamshire took place in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League at the weekend, although that did account for six of the regions’ clubs, as they faced off against each other, whilst on league duty.
Two of those clubs came from Notts County, as their Seniors took care of hosts Rise Park Ladies, 5-0, in the Premier Division, and the Development side won 2-1 away to SJR Worksop, in Division One North.
Victory for Adam Dunleavy’s Premier Division side moved them within a point of the top five sides, one of which is Mansfield Town Ladies, the Pies winning comfortably when on the road.
Alongside their win was the addition to the first team squad of Abbie Staples, she having been promoted from their Development set-up, coming on as a second half substitute with the side three goals to the good.
Charlotte Taylor had opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes, finishing from inside the box, before Nya Chambers added a second when smashing home a headed through-ball from Mollie Crump just before the half hour mark; then, with five minutes to go until the break, Crump would head home the third of the afternoon, connecting to a corner from Emma White.
As Lashea Francis, Bella Reed, and Staples, all took to the field on the restart, it would be a case of as you were as the game progressed, Taylor would grab her second, and the visitors fourth of the afternoon, when lobbing the home ‘keeper.
Emma White would be seen to wrap up the scoring, and the points, with twenty minutes remaining, unleashing a rocket of a strike for number five – highlights of the game from Eagle Valley can be viewed HERE
Two games would be contested in Division One North, County’s Development side taking the points in one of them as Thomas Hedges’ side travelled to Worksop and defeat hosts St Joseph’s Rockware 2-1.
Victory for the Devs now means that four of the top five sides in the division, are all Nottinghamshire clubs, the victors moving into fifth with goals from Phoebe Roe and Caitlin Want, the hosts netting through substitute, Lynsey law.
The other fixture played finished with the same outcome, a 2-1 away win, as third place Nottingham Trent University Women won at second bottom Sherwood Women, Hollie Dalling netting for the hosts, whilst Mia Pinkham and Elizabeth Stocks saw the visitors take the points.
