Kyle Wootton has joined Stockport County after three seasons at Notts County where he scored 59 goals in 134 appearances.
The player was always leaving the Magpies on good terms after running down his contract following the club’s playoff failure to gain promotion from the National League and despite a lot of interest from sides high up in the football spectrum including the likes of Barnsley and Portsmouth, the player chose Stockport, who gained promotion to League Two last season.
Wootton saying after joining “I can see them pushing up the leagues and really want to be part of that journey, so speaking with the manager, the owner, a few people round the place, it’s exciting times at the club and I thought coming and playing in League Two with this group of players really excites me and I would like to be on that journey with the club.”
Across the river from Meadow Lane, Nottingham Forest have announced their retain list ahead of their new leash of life in the Premier League and three players that won’t be staying at the club next season are Tobias Figueiredo, Gaetan Bong and Carl Jenkinson who all depart after running down their contracts.
Lewis Grabban however has been offered a new contract by the club with contracts also provided for youngsters Billy Fewster, Aaron Donnelly and Riley Harbottle.
Six Academy players have been released, they include Marcelo Valencia, Josh Barnes, Baba Fernandes, Sam Saunders, Morgan Thomas-Sadler and Joe Watkins.
Finally in Mansfield there’s some good news for Jordan Bowery who has penned a new two year deal at Field Mill. The 30-year-old forward saying “I had offers elsewhere but there was only one place.”
“I wanted to stay. After last season and what the club is looking to do, there is only one place I wanted to be.”
