After a thumping 7-3 defeat in the Challenge Cup at Sheffield Steelers on Saturday night, Nottingham Panthers bounced back with a much better performance against Cardiff Devils on Sunday, in the Premier Sports Elite League at the Motorpoint Arena, the home side winning 5-2 to move into the top six of the standings.
Matthew Myers opened the scoring during a power play after eighteen minutes of a scoreless first period before Stephen Anderson doubled advantage, Nottingham up two going into the second.
Cole Sandford pulled one back for Cardiff early into the second period but Brett Welychka netted to restore two goal advantage, Adam Brady then made it 4-1 with his third of the season, during another power play advantage for the Panthers, Welychka then netted a fifth, and his fourth of the season, into an empty net, late in the third, before a consolation by Brodie Reid gave the few travelling supporters little to cheer about.
A big win for Gary Graham and his team who now sit sixth in the table having ten points from ten games played, Cardiff, now fourth, will return the favour and host Nottingham on Friday night in Wales, before a return to the Challenge Cup, where Nottingham host Manchester Storm on Sunday, the two sides separated by two points, a win for the Panthers will ensure their passage into the next stage.
