Ollerton Beat Retford In NCEL Derby

It was derby day in the Northern Counties East Division One as Ollerton hosted Retford, and running out 2-0 winners, in front of a crowd of 136, both goals coming in the first half.

Victory for the hosts moved them to within three point, and a place, of the visitors, the pair having played twenty-four games apiece, whilst sitting outside of the play-offs, whilst seeing them complete the double over their opponents.

Earlier in the season Alfie Dodsworth scored a second half brace as Ollerton won 4-1 at Retford, this past weekend it was early goals from Ashley Grayson and Adam Scott that sealed the points.

A little over ten minutes into the game and the hosts led when a corner from Lewis Murr was met by the head of Grayson, who stooped to nod past Jon Kennedy in the visiting goal; ten minutes later the lead was doubled when Jake Squires releases Murr, and he puts the ball over and into the path of the onrushing Scott, who proceeds to lift the ball over Kennedy and into the net – scoring against his former club….

With both sides having chances, plenty of them, somehow the score remained at just 2-0 to the hosts, Owen Evans, in the home goal, and Kennedy, the visiting, and their respective defences, protecting well throughout.

Ollerton Town – Owen Evans, Samuel Geeves, Lewis Murr, Sam Stretton, Ashley Grayson, Josef Turner, Adam Scott (Lewis Bingham, 60), Joe Lumley, Jake Squires (James Woodhouse, 72), Matthew Thompson, Nathan Murr

Retford – Jon Kennedy, Leon Loftus, Haydn Goddard, Alex Boyd, Jack Johnson, Liam Bennett, George White, Oliver Lobley, Will Tomlinson, Liam Frost, Jack Walters

Basford United picked up a valuable, three points, in the Southern League Central following a 2-1 win away to Stourbridge; goalless at the interval, the hosts opened the scoring within ten minutes of the restart before Kevin da Silva Bastos equalised for the visitors just after the hour mark, whilst McGowan snatched what proved the winner in the closing minutes.

Meanwhile, in the Northern Premier League East, leaders Worksop Town stretched their unbeaten run to twenty-four games, but were held to a goalless draw when home to Cleethorpes Town, the first time this season they’ve not scored in a game.

Carlton Town though, they scored twice, one in each half, to pick up all three points when away to Tadcaster Albion, Aaron O’Connor with a brace for a side entrenched in a relegation battle at the bottom end of the table.

The United Counties League would see both Newark & Sherwood United, and Kimberley Miners Welfare, register narrow wins on the road, whilst both Eastwood CFC, and Selston, found themselves held at home.

James Gardner’s goal, inside ten minutes, was sufficient for Newark & Sherwood to take the points when away to Sherwood Colliery, whilst James Shaw notched a brace as Kimberley won 2-1 at Pinchbeck United.

Eastwood meanwhile, they took an interval lead when home to Loughborough Students, William Foley scoring midway through the first, but were pegged back after the break, and Selston , they faced AFC Mansfield and led early on through Jacob Burrows, Sean Devlin levelling ten minutes after the restart.

In Division One, a brace from Lewis Chambers helped Newark Town on their way to a 5-1 home win over Dunkirk, whilst Hucknall Town also picked up maximum points, when away to Kirby Muxloe.

Goalless at the break, Hucknall eased to a 3-0 win thanks to second half goals from Kieran Knight, and stoppage time efforts from Aaron Lamb (92) and Trevell Lindo (94); a second half brace from Ruben Wiggins-Thomas gave Gedling Miners Welfare the points away to West Bridgford, whilst the game between Southwell City and Clifton All Whites, finished in a 2-2 draw.

Radford picked up another three points as goals from Daniel Fletcher and Scott Litchfield saw them win 2-1 at home to Clipstone, and Rainworth Miners Welfare lost 3-1 at leaders, Aylestone Park.

The Central Midlands League sae Mansfield Hosiery Mills draw 1-1 at home to Pinxton in the South, whilst there was defeats for Arnold Town, Teversal and Nottingham, and SJR Worksop fell to defeat at home to Glapwell in the North.

The semi-finalists of this season’s Nottinghamshire FA Senior Trophy was confirmed with that of Central Midlands League pairing, Retford United (North) and Linby Colliery Welfare (South) being joined by Nottinghamshire Senior League duo of Keyworth United and Stapleford Town.

Retford United claimed a 5-1 home win over Collingham on Saturday afternoon, Jed Phillips with a first half brace alongside further goals from Tom Brook and Tom Roebuck, for a four-goal, interval lead.

The visitors pulled one back early in the second period, however, the Badgers affirmed their dominance with a fifth, this from Craig Mitchell, just after the hour mark; Linby CW meanwhile edged through to the semi-finals with a lone-goal win over visiting Ruddington Village, Tremere Lindo netting on the stroke of half-time.

In the other two, quarter-final matches, Stapleford Town progressed courtesy of a 2-0 home win over AC United, and Premier Division leaders, Keyworth United, won 1-0 at Aslockton & Orston.

As for the Notts Senior League, and with the leaders on Trophy duty, second place Wollaton won 2-0 away to Basford CFC on Friday night, Liam Taylor scoring both; third place Sandiacre Town won 2-1 at Woodthorpe Park Rangers, and FC Sez, sandwiched between Sandiacre and Woodthorpe, were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Cotgrave, also on Friday.
