Notts Starts January Sales
The transfer window is heating up, both at home, and abroad, and, at Meadow Lane, home of Notts County, it’s certainly a similar scenario occurring.
Fans were disappointed, but understanding, of the clubs’ decision to let go of midfielder Daniel Crowley, who, after eighteen months in Nottingham, has made the decision, for an undisclosed fee, to move south, and League Two rivals, Milton Keynes Dons.
Having made more than sixty appearances for the club, and scoring twenty goals, Crowley has certainly been an instrumental component of Stuart Maynard’s side in recent times, however, as the statement from the club says, the club has riches in that department.
The NCFC Board of Directors saying that: “While Dan has certainly been an influential figure for us, following the exciting additions of Will Jarvis and Charlie Whitaker, as well as the return to fitness of Conor Grant and Curtis Edwards, we have many strong options in his area of the pitch and we’re very confident the squad can mount a strong challenge for promotion without him.”
Of those mentioned in the club statement, Irish midfielder, Grant, joined the club last summer from the MK Dons, and Teessider Edwards, also joining last summer, is much-travelled and experienced, following a number of years in Scandinavia.
Two of the clubs’ three, recent signings, Jarvis and Whitaker, bring talented youth to the midfield, whilst the other signing is defender, Zak Johnson, on-loan from Championship club, Sunderland.
York born winger, Will Jarvis, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at Meadow Lane, following a decade with Hull City, where he began his youth career back in 2014.
Jarvis was signed at the start of January, in the aftermath of the club letting Cedwyn Scott depart for Carlisle United; at just 22-years-old, the former Hull player has also had loan spells with his hometown club of York City, as well as with Scarborough Athletic, and Irish side, Shelbourne, making close to ninety appearances, and netting near twenty times, during that period.
Expected to make a real impact at the Lane, Maynard said of the Jarvis signing that: “Will’s a goal threat and a dribbler who loves to go past people in one-v-one situations, whether that’s down the outside or on the inside.
“He’s a young player who’ll get the fans off their seats.”

Whitaker meanwhile, he arrives as a highly related, promising youngster, an attacking midfielder, from Premier League side, Everton, signing a six-month contract.
With the Toffees, although not having made a first team appearance under their now former manager, Sean Dyche, County boss Stuart Maynard has brought in someone who has played regularly for his former sides’ U21s this season, with appearances in both Premier League Two and the EFL Trophy to his name.
Fans can take delight in his on-field record with the Toffees, registering 43 goal involvements in his 87 appearances for their U18s and U21s, thirty of those involvements being goals scored.
As for the third signing, Sunderland-born defender, Zak Johnson, he is onto his third loan spell away from his hometown club, Sunderland.
An England U18 international (captain in the win over Australia), the defender has already made a handful of appearances for the Black Cates first team, his last being in their recent, FA Cup exit, at the hands of Stoke City, this past weekend.
His previous loan spells have seen him at Hartlepool United, and in Ireland with Dundalk.
With the transfer window continuing to simmer away, expect plenty more comings, and maybe goings, from Meadow Lane – keep up-to-date with it all here
