All eyes are turning to the start of the new, EFL League One season, and, with fixtures having been released for both that, the League Cup, and the EFL Trophy, Nigel Clough’s Stags will be raring to go when pre-season kicks off.

A handful of domestic friendlies concludes with the Stags hosting East Midlands neighbours, and Championship side, Derby County, on Friday 31 July (KO 19:00) at the One Call Stadium, after which the season begins in earnest with a reunion from last season.

Just eight months ago the Stags recorded one of their biggest wins in recent history when defeating Sheffield United, 4-3, in the FA Cup Third Round, at Bramall Lane; fast-forward to early August and the Stags will welcome the Blades to the One Call in the opening round of this coming seasons Carabao (League) Cup competition.

After the visit of Chris Wilder’s charges, the Stags face two home games in the opening three outings of the new league campaign, Clough’s side looking to push on from last season’s mid-table finish.

The opening day of the new season will see the Stags welcome Doncaster Rovers (15 August), before traveling to Peterborough United the following week (22 August); a second home game in three outings comes when Luton Town visit a week later (29 August), the games encompassing the first three Saturdays of the season.

In the EFL Trophy, the Stags have seen themselves drawn into the Northern Section’s Group D, with Chesterfield, Port Vale, and Manchester City U21s in opposition, and will look to better results of the past three seasons that saw them finish in the bottom two on each occasion.

Back to the league, and the return of the Nottinghamshire Derby, and matches 57 and 58, the first of which takes place at the One Call Stadium on Halloween (31 October), and the return, three months later, at Meadow Lane, at the start of the New Year (30 January).

The last time the two sides met, in League Two, a couple of seasons back, Clough’s side registered back-to-back victories, winning 4-1 (Louis Reed, Baily Cargill, Aden Flint, and Lucas Akins netting) at Meadow Lane in mid-October, and 1-0 (Davis Keillor-Dunne with the only goal) at the One Call in early February.

In an opponent-reversal to County, Mansfield will, on Boxing Day and New Years Day, oppose first, Barnsley at home (26 December), then travel to Cambridge United (1 January), with the 2026/27 season close coming in early May.

The Stags, who’ll be hoping to be in the hunt for a play-off berth at worst, host former Premier League champions, Leicester City, on 1 May, before closing a week later away to Stockport County, on 8 May. View Mansfield Town’s 2026/27 fixtures HERE
