Outlaws Cement Quarters Place
Nottinghamshire Outlaws cemented their place in the Vitality Blast quarter finals with a home match guaranteed after a convincing victory against the Yorkshire Vikings in a reduced overs game at Trent Bridge due to the rain.
The night started with soprano Lizzie Jones MBE singing Nessun Dorma but what followed was a downpour which led to a delayed 8:45pm start and a seven over a side game.
Yorkshire made 60/3 in their innings with Brook out early, stumped Moores off the bowling of Samit Patel for a duck before Adam Lyth and Jordan Thompson steered the away side to a slightly under par score.
Lyth eventually going off the bowling of Paterson after the first ball of the last over for 26 with Thompson following just two balls later for 28. Matthew Waite scored three runs from the remaining three balls whilst Sam Northeast at the other end remained without facing a delivery.
In reply Notts got to work well and Alex Hales who recently signed a two-year contract extension with the white ball side made 31 from just nine balls which included a four and four sixes, Peter Trego at the other end equally as devastating with 29 not out from 13 balls, Notts reaching target without loss inside 3.4 overs.
A fabulous way to extend their lead at the top of the North Group table as the Outlaws continue to defend a trophy they won last summer in devastating swashbuckling fashion. Next up is County Championship action which starts on Sunday in Durham before next Friday nights trip is short down the A46 to conclude round robin T20 blast matters against Leicestershire Foxes.
