Mansfield Town U18 3-1 Queens Park Rangers U18 *aet (FA Youth Cup Round Three) 16.12.19

Mansfield Town are through to the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup after beating Queens Park Rangers in extra time at Field Mill last night.

As they did against Rotherham in round two the Stags left it late coming from behind to equalise in added time before knocking the stuffing out of QPR in the extra half an hour to qualify for the last 32 of the competition.

In a tight game the home side had chances through Lawson and Hill in the opening ten minutes with Knowles curling an effort just wide on 22. The threat of Kargbo was prominent for the visitors as he headed wide from Griffiths cross before Knowles had another shot this time deflected wide for a corner on the half hour.

QPR’s best chance of the half came when Kalathias volleyed over from inside the box as both sides went in 0-0 at the break.

The second half was equally as tight with Hill curling over just before the hour before Knowles stung the palms of Little in the Rangers goal on 72. Two minutes later Lawson hit the underside of the bar before the same player found the net only for it to be ruled offside.

With extra time looming the Stags might have thought missed chances proved costly as QPR took a late lead with a minute left as Kagbo hit home powerfully but in four minutes of added time Kyle Tomlin scored a screamer hitting from distance to loop over the keeper and take the game into ET.

That goal a real kick in the teeth to QPR who might have thought they won it spurred on the Stags to take the lead as Molyneaux crossed which Harrack diverted into his own net on 93 and two minutes later Jimmy Knowles put the tie to bed striking powerfully with Molyneaux again the provider.

There was still time for a double red card as Ingram and Jude-Boyd were sent off for an off ball incident but the Stags clung on to victory and saw the game out to take a place in the next stage of the competition in dramatic fashion.
