UCL Round Up – Sherwood & Eastwood Through

Alongside the progression of Basford United and Carlton Town, two further clubs moved into the next round of Emirates FA Cup this past weekend, whilst another requires a replay, tomorrow night.

Eastwood CFC and Sherwood Colliery were both victorious in their respective cup ties, with Newark & Sherwood United requiring a replay, they heading to Boston Town on Tuesday night after Saturday’s goalless draw.

A goal in each half from Tyler Blake had Eastwood on their way to a 4-0 win away to Coton Green; three goals to the good at the interval, Blake was joined on the scoresheet by first half efforts from Noh Abraha and Aaron O’Connor.

Sherwood Colliery meanwhile picked up a great home win when seeing off visitors Anstey Nomads 3-1 with goals coming from Kieran Knight, Jacob Pearce (who recently played his hundredth game for the club), and Harry Bircumshaw.

Newark Town though, they exited the competition following a narrow, 3-2 loss, when away to Rossington Main, Louis Czerwak and Ryan Rushen with the goals for the visitors.

FA CUP FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW (toes to be played, Saturday 30 August 2025)

Newark & Sherwood United/Boston Town vs. Sporting Khalsa; Eastwood CFC vs. Grimsby Borough; Carlton Town vs. Cleethorpes Town; Hednesford Town vs. Basford United; Quorn vs. Sherwood Colliery

Two games involving Notts-based clubs was played in the GCE Hire Fleet United Counties League Premier North at the weekend, Kimberley Miners Welfare picking up a comfortable 3-0 road win at Gresley Rovers, and AFC Mansfield collected a point following a 1-1 draw at home to Grantham Town.

Ryan Ingram signed off from his spell with AFC Mansfield by scoring in the draw, he’s now returned to his former club, Sherwood Colliery, whilst at Gresley it was Finn Ryder (who else) bagging a brace for Kimberley in their 3-0 win, Lewis Weaver the other in the last minute.

Numerous games were played in UCL Division One involving local clubs, with mixed results, both Retford sides coming out on top as the days’ biggest winners; the Badgers won 4-2 away to Rainworth Miners Welfare as Lewis Chambers and Collum Orange notched braces, and the Choughs won 2-1 at home to Radford with Iren Wilson and Jacob Priestnall scoring.

Sandiacre Town won 2-1 at home to Clipstone in another local affair, goals coming from Jack Vipond and Owen Scattergood, Kyle Bacon replying, with the games between Gedling Miners Welfare and West Bridgford, and Swallownest and Stapleford Town, ending as draws

The former of those saw four goals shared with Courtney Hastings and Joshua Lawe (Gedling) and Josiah Puleston and Elliot King (West) netting for their respective sides, and the latter contest finished goalless.

The remaining games saw defeat for Southwell City, Shirebrook Town, and Dunkirk; Tom Mangan bagged a hat-trick as his Coalville side won 5-0 at home to Southwell, Max Fisher bagged a brace as Holwell Sports won 2-0 at Shirebrook, and South Normanton Athletic won 2-1 at Dunkirk.
