Basford Edge Thriller In Trophy
Games took place in both the Isuzu FA Trophy, and United Counties League Knock-Out Cup competitions on Saturday afternoon, with both Notts clubs progressing in the former, and ten making it through in the latter.
Carlton Town needed penalties needed penalties to see off East Midlands rivals, and hosts, Long Eaton United, whilst Basford edged a five-goal thriller when away to Mickleover, to reach the Second Qualifying Round.
Meanwhile, in the UCL Cup, there was victories for Eastwood CFC, Gedling Miners Welfare, Kimberley Miners Welfare, Newark Town, Newark & Sherwood United, Retford, Retford United, Sherwood Colliery, and Southwell City, with two of those progressing doing so by netting four times apiece.
In the Trophy, the Millers were held to a 2-2 draw away to the Blues, before visiting shot-stopper, Felix Annan, saved three spot-kicks in the shoot-out to give his side a 3-2 win after Lewis Chambers and Alex Howes had netted in normal time.
Long Eaton opened the scoring early on following a goalmouth melee, both sides netting in the opening ten minutes, whilst supporters had to wait until the final twenty for more; the visitors put themselves ahead with twelve to go before the hosts levelled to take the tie to penalties, through Evan Garnett.
The Ambers on the other-hand, they were in a tight battle of their own when away to the Sports, goals for the visitors coming via Jack Goodman, and second half efforts from Ethan Stewart and, with ten remaining, Jordy Hallam.
Goodman’s first half goal was cancelled out around fifteen minutes later through Stuart Beavon, whilst their second came within minutes of Basford taking their second lead, early in the second period, through a Daniel Benson header.
In the Enterprise National League North Worksop Town’s trip to Wales ended in defeat, their first in five, when going down 2-0 at Merthyr Town, both goals arriving early in the second half.

Not quite at sixes-and-sevens in the Camper UK Central Midlands Alliance League, but there were a few bunches of fives in a handful of Premier Division matches.
