Carlton Through After Penalty Win

Carlton Town last night reached the preliminary round of the FA Cup after coming from behind to earn a shootout victory against Loughborough University at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.

Loughborough took the lead when Cashmore rounded the keeper to slot home on seven minutes and the Scholars were good value for their slender advantage which they took into the break.

A spirited second half saw Oliver Clarke’s leveller though which took the game to penalties with Tom Maddison scoring the all-important spot kick as the Millers won 4-2 to go through.

The extra preliminary round victory also means that TalkSport Radio station will support Carlton as presenter Laura Woods picked Loughborough University out of the hat to follow a random team in this seasons cup. Due to Carlton’s victory Woods and co will now follow the Millers on their cup journey as they travel to Oadby Town for a tie to be played on Saturday 12th September.

In the only other FA Cup game involving a Nottinghamshire side last night, Selston were beaten at Bottesford Town 2-1 but Jordan Black’s 87th minute goal for the Notts Villagers was the first ever FA Cup goalscored by the club.

Following the results of the Extra Preliminary Round the draw for the Preliminary Round of the competition involving our local sides is as follows:

  • Anstey Nomads v Worksop Town
  • Cleethorpes Town v AFC Mansfield
