Basford To Face Forest U23s
Basford United’s pre-season preparations step up a gear as they welcome Nottingham Forest under 23s to Greenwich Avenue on Tuesday night.
The fixture offers the first opportunity in six months for fans to watch Nottingham Forest in person, following the recent pandemic, with multiple first team players expected to be involved.
Forest come into the fixture off the back of their success last season, having clinched the title in their development league as they look to use Tuesday’s fixture to maintain momentum.
Basford, on the other hand, come into the game having already played five friendlies, winning two, losing two and drawing the other.
Most recently, Basford fell to a 1-0 defeat to Alfreton Town, in a game where they looked very much equal to their supposedly superior opposition.
Tuesday’s fixture offers Steve Chettle’s team a huge step forward in their preparations as the Northern Premier Division season, beginning on 19 September at home to Warrington Town, looms large over the club.
With local bragging rights at stake, an intriguing battle is guaranteed at Greenwich Avenue in front of a limited, yet enthusiastic, crowd.
