Newark FC got their Midland Football League campaign off to as flying start over the opening weekend of the season as they beat Worcester City 2-0 at Lowfields with goals from Nathan Stainfield and Craig Westcarr.
Having signed from Gainsborough Trinity in the summer it was centre back Stainfield who opened the tangerines account for the season grabbing the first goal on the half hour with a trade mark header and former Forest, Notts and Stags striker Craig Westcarr netted a second four minutes into the second half to put the home side in control against opposition tipped to do well.
295 supporters were in attendance with Newark next facing a trip to Coventry United who won their first game 2-1 against Heather St Johns.
Those that followed the exploits of Selston FC last season will be amazed to see that they had yet another game postponed. After finishing bottom of the table prior to lockdown with a huge number of matches in hand due to postponements their bad luck has continued already into the 2020/21 campaign as their match against Stourport Swifts was called off to a player for Bottesford who Selston played in the FA Cup in midweek was tested positive for coronavirus.
Better luck for some of our counties sides in friendly action however as Carlton Town beat Staveley Miners Welfare 2-1 thanks to a Jordan Smith brace whilst Eastwood beat AFC Mansfield at the Forest Town Arena 3-2.
Retford United ran out 4-1 winners at Wombwell Town with Ollerton Town beating Worsborough Bridge by the same scoreline.
