Notts Crash Out Of Cup

Notts County Women lost a heart-breaking tie against Lincoln United yesterday to go out of the Womens FA Cup at the first attempt in a match played in front of 152 supporters at Greenwich Avenue, Basford.

The lady Magpies were eventually beaten on penalties with the full time result ending 4-4 after taking a 3-0 lead in a remarkable match they thought they had won.

Notts took the lead through Reed on 7 minutes of their Extra Preliminary Round game before Taylor made it two on 22 minutes and things got even better for the home side when Reed netted her third on the half hour.

Lincoln pulled one back on 35 minutes through a well taken free kick before a penalty on the stroke of half time reduced the deficit to just one. On 65 minutes Lincoln equalised to level up a remarkable three goal disadvantage but Mel East put Notts ahead again with the Magpies one foot into the next round thanks to her 70th minute strike.

It wasn’t to be though as a spirited Lincoln levelled in the last minute and took the game to spot kicks which lasted for thirteen penalties with Lincoln eventually winning 3-2.

Elsewhere it was a better afternoon for Rise Park Ladies who beat Asfordby Amateurs 3-0 to go through whilst Sherwood FC received a walkover and Arnold Eagles lost 2-1 against Dronfield Town LFC.
