Stags Sack Coughlan After Defeat

Mansfield Town 2-4 Barrow (EFL League Two) 27.10.20

Mansfield Town have parted ways with their Manager Graham Coughlan after a fourth league defeat of the season during a campaign where the Stags are without a win in all competitions after twelve games played.

The inevitable verdict was that the Manager had to go having won just four of his 27 games in charge of the club since taking over in the role last December.

Bradley Barry gave League Two newcomers the lead after just ten minutes of last nights game at the One Call Stadium before Patrick Brough made it two to the visitors who were themselves still awaiting for their first league win of the season before last night.

James Perch gave the Stags some hope ten minutes before half time to reduce the deficit but just six minutes into the second period Aaron O’Driscoll got himself sent off and ten minutes later it would prove to be even more of an uphill task as Josh Kay added a third to all but put the game to bed.

In fact things got even worse for the Stags as Kay netted his second of the match with eleven minutes remaining and although Harry Charsley scored late on to restore some pride, the damage was done as Keith Stroud blew the full time whistle with Mansfield nine games into their season without a win.

Now 22nd of the 24 teams in the division and 90th in the football league just a place and a point above the drop zone, the Stags have had to act in ridding Coughlan of his duties with the clubs Chief Executive David Sharpe now on the hunt for a new man (or woman) to replace him.

Mansfield Town: Stech, Menayese, Rawson, O’Driscoll, Lapslie, Perch (Maris 68), Gordon, Charsley, McLaughlin, Maynard (Reid 68), Cook.

Barrow: Dixon, Bird, Platt, Brough, Barry, Jones, J Taylor (C Taylor 74), Kay, Biggins, James, Angus (Reid 81).

Venue: Field Mill
